Reading Time:

It has been said you are the oil of love and trust.
I have felt that bond with you my fragrant friend.
You showed me loyalty when I felt most abandoned.
You gave me love when I felt lost.
Geranium, enduring and true,
steadily you ushered me back into delight.
Into the light.

As a native South African, the geranium plant, which is also native to Southern Africa, calls from a familiar place. A relationship with roots, something to be trusted and aligned with. This is the quality of this diverse and powerful aromatic plant medicine for healing the broken heart. Loyal, enduring, safe, reliable, dependable, trustworthy, loving, sweet, generous, stable, with uplifting spiritual energy.

I have prescribed essential oil of Rose Geranium (pelargonium roseum) to many of my clients and students as a tonic to the nervous system. Specifically as an aromatic doctor for helping with erratic moods and chronic depression. Geranium has a distinct effect on the nervous system. Remarkably it is both sedative and stimulating, depending on the individual needs. Just a simple hand-palm inhalation or infusion of the oil into the environment through a diffuser or in a massage oil blend can bring relief from mood swings, anxiety, depression, grief, and emotional imbalances.

Of course as with any healing practice, this needs to be used consistently until one feels the results and notices positive change. There is no magic bullet but just one lingering inhalation of this sweet floral scent and it seems that suddenly the world feels like a more beautiful, mystical, and manageable place.

I don’t say this lightly, the elixir of youth….

I personally have experienced the miracle of geranium. Not only to sustainably uplift my mood and keep me on a fragrant steady footing but also for my skin. Over the last several years my Pitta skin has literally become the receiver of many compliments. I attribute that to the Tridoshic oil I have been using with geranium as one of the key ingredients. Geranium is a mild yet effective skin beautifier. i.e. reduces wrinkles, hydrates ad refreshes the skin. It is astringent and antibacterial so excellent to heal and soothe eczema, burns, herpes, blemishes, bites and acne. Geranium regulates sebaceous gland activity and secretion of sebum making it beneficial for all skin types. Also famous for healing wounds and rejuvenating skin cells.

SKIN BEAUTY TIP: Take one tsp coconut, apricot, or jojoba oil, add 4 drops geranium EO and 10 drops rose water. Blend together.

Massage into skin with upward strokes. Wring out a steaming hot facecloth and gently place over entire face. Hold and take a deep inhalaaaaation very lightly pressing the cloth on the skin. Remove cloth leaving a fine trace of the oil blend on skin. You can do this in the morning or before bed.

This floral beauty gifts miracles to women. As a powerful medicine for stimulating the adrenal cortex, geranium helps regulate hormonal balance and rejuvenates the female system. A rejuvenating essence for the shukra dhatu or reproductive tissue as well as a tonic for the ovaries and uterus. This plant essence has an affinity to the water element of the moon and helps to normalize the menstrual cycle, as well as easing symptoms of menopause and PMS. Use in a bath oil, as a compress, hand-palm inhalation, in a diffuser. You can safely infuse your environment daily with this exquisite healing oil for women.
